Why the pharmacy next door to you is doing a lot better than you are is not because of witch craft or because they sell fake drugs. These are just lies you may be repeating to yourself to avoid telling yourself some hard truth about what they are doing that you are not doing.
Well, today is your day of salvation because I would want to expose to you some of the things that those successful pharmacists are doing that you are not doing.
THE PHARMACY NEXT DOOR PAYS FOR AND ATTEND TRAININGS – I have been running trainings for the past seven years for pharmaceutical companies in Nigeria. I am yet to see the owner of a struggling pharmacy pay for and attend a training. More than 95% of the time, its still the owners of the very successful pharmacies that attend. you must understand that trainings are critical for building viable organisations. The knowledge that you had yesterday got you to where you are today. The knowledge that will move you to where you want to be tomorrow, you must acquire today.
THE PHARMACY NEXT DOOR TRIES TO MASTER THE BUSINESS SIDE OF PHARMACY – Its funny how a pharmacist whose business is collapsing starts to acquire more pharmacy knowledge without realising that what he needs is actually business knowledge. You need to understand when your pharmacy is not doing well that it is the business that is not doing well and not the pharmacy practice. You must master the business side of the practice. Read business books. I will highly recommend GOOD TO GREAT by Jim Collins, 80/20 PRINCIPLE, 7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE.
THE PHARMACY NEXT DOOR IS AN ACUTE OBSERVER OF LITTLE CHANGES WITH BIG IMPACT – This you can find majorly with Igbo pharmacy business owners. They can sense when a major change is about to occur in their business and immediately make adjustments. Most owners of pharmacies that are going down are rarely observant of the little but critical changes happening around them. For instance, I was hired by a pharmacist to review her business to see why it was not doing well. The moment I stepped into her shop, I saw why the sales had started dropping like stone in a well. The shelves were collapsing, the light bulbs had all burnt out. I am sure that the place had not been repainted for more than five years. She was complaining about poor sales without noticing the little changes happening in her business that was chasing away big spenders.
THE PHARMACY NEXT DOOR HIRES THE BEST STAFF – This is key to why any pharmacy will do very well. I find it amusing when I try to recruit for owners of pharmacies that are not thriving. Their primary concern is always how much the new employee will ask for as salary. They always recruit the cheapest staff without first considering skill level and value the new staff can bring into their business. Once you miss this point, your business will continue to decrease while that of your neighbour will continue to increase
